Boisen Resigns, Kuehn Appointed to the Board
The January board meeting marked the final date of service for Director Doug Boisen, who announced his retirement in 2008. He was presented a resolution of appreciation by Chairman Dean Klute, and the board accepted his resignation, with regrets. Boisen provided strong leadership during his 14 years as a director, having served as Treasurer, and on numerous committees including the Labor, Finance, Safety, Budget and Legislation Committees. His leadership with the Nebraska Corn Board has also made him a strong voice in issues pertaining to agriculture.
The Board also approved the appointment of John L. Kuehn to the empty seat in Kearney County, and he was administered the Oath of Office by Board Secretary Rick Bergman. Director Kuehn is the fourth generation “John Kuehn” to reside in Kearney County. He is a graduate of Minden High School, received his BA in Biology from Hastings College and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Biology at Hastings College, and raises cattle and horses south of Heartwell. He is a member of the Nebraska
Livestock Emergency Disease Reporting System Veterinary Corps and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He is also past President of the Minden Rotary Club, served on the Hastings Family Planning Board of Directors and was a veterinary professional campaign coordinator for the United Way.
Prior to his recommendation to serve on the board, Director Kuehn had a strong interest in public power. He says, “My interest in service on Southern's Board is to continue the tradition of low cost, reliable public power that is critical to the economic viability of the communities served by
Southern Power.” He also says he has a strong interest in the legislative and regulatory issues that will affect the cost of power supplied to agriculture, local business, and consumers in the rural Nebraska.
Without a doubt, his enthusiasm will make a great addition to our Board of Directors. We extend a warm welcome to Director Kuehn, and offer our gratitude and best wishes to former Director Boisen.
