SPD Board Looks Toward 2009, Approves Capital Expenditure Budget
Southern’s Board of Directors recently approved the 2009 Budget for Capital Expenditure items. The budget was reviewed in detail by the Board’s Budget Committee in October, and their final recommendation was approved by the entire Board at their November 12th meeting.
The capital expenditures budget for 2009 amounted to $10.7 million, which is an increase from 2008 of over $2.5 million. In a nutshell, the heftier budget can be largely attributed to our commitment to make necessary upgrades where needed, to assure the reliable delivery of electricity to your home, farm or business.
The capital expenditure budget process will be followed by the review and ultimate approval of the Revenue and Expense Budgets by January of 2009.
At this time, the District is examining a rate increase of approximately 11 percent to meet our growing wholesale power costs, as well as our ongoing need to make improvements to our system to meet future growth demands. We know that rates are at the front of your mind during these volatile times in our economy, so we will keep you posted on those developments.
