Careers at Southern
Southern Power District has a variety of employees on staff. In addition to linemen, we have very knowledgeable engineering, accounting, customer service and administrative professionals. Even though we may not have an immediate opening, we are always interested in those who have skills and experience in these areas. Our workforce is dynamic, constantly changing and we find it very helpful to know who is in the workplace market. So, if you have a skill or training in an area you feel would be valuable to the district, we encourage you to send a resume via email to Darrell Peters and we will keep it on file for future positions openings as they become available.
Journeyman Lineman Rate
Southern's current Journeyman Lineman rate is $22.75 per hour. Including overtime, the average annual income of our Journeyman Linemen is $48,000. The work is stable and not affected by the economy. There are no layoffs or transfers out of state. Linemen based out of one of our five service centers (located in Grand Island, Hastings, Central City, Holdrege or Franklin) typically do not travel. Our six-man construction crew does travel throughout the seven county district to work in assigned areas. Working as a lineman is rewarding and is very much appreciated by the customer.
