Customer Newsletter, July 2008
Southern Power District will be employing interns throughout the summer, seven of whom are currently working toward being a linemen. These student-employees are required to take an internship as part of their education, and it provides them with an excellent opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job experience. For the District, it also allows us to see first-hand the work skills and abilities of these men.
These interns have the training to perform a variety of tasks for Southern, including pole framing and specifications, grounding, and pole climbing. They do not perform the full duties of an apprentice lineman at this point in their education.
In addition to our linemen interns, we are also pleased to have an engineering intern this summer. This individual is assisting our Engineering staff, who has seen a tremendous workload this past year. His presence is very much appreciated by our very busy engineering staff! We’re excited to have all these men on board, and hope their experiences at Southern will further their knowledge of lineman and engineering duties.
