Our Energy, Our Future
These are hard economic times for America's families. Many are struggling to afford the basics, such as food, housing, and energy. Here in Nebraska, we are fortunate to have some of the lowest rates in the nation, and we also have enough generation to meet our current demands. However, across our nation, the cost of electricity is up 40 percent since 2002 and projected to go even higher. Electric generation supply in the United States won't be able to keep pace with future demand. Additionally, our nation's leaders are working now to address heightening concerns for climate change, and the solutions currently being discussed are ones that will be costly. |

| Although we are fortunate to have lower rates and adequate capacity here in Nebraska, there is no doubt that the decisions made in our nation's capital during the next few months will have an impact on the future of our electricity--both the affordability and availability. With the Senate now taking the spotlight with climate change legislation NOW IS THE TIME to communicate with them about our concerns for affordable, achievable and fair legislation. We can't afford to wait until the impact is felt in our daily budgets. Talk to them today and let them know that we need to work together to assure the affordability of our electric rates for our individual well being, as well as for the health of our local, state and national economies.
