Electric Line Project Open House Dates
Nebraska Public Power District will hold two open houses regarding a new 345,000-volt electric transmission line to run from a substation near Axtell, Nebraska to the Nebraska/Kansas border. The public is encouraged to stop by at their convenience between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on:
Wednesday, March 10
Franklin County Fairgrounds, Ag Center 1217 G Road, Franklin Nebraska
Thursday, March 11
Kearney County Fairgrounds, North Highway 10, Minden, NE
NPPD’s new power line will link at the border to a similar transmission line constructed in Kansas by ITC Great Plains. The map included here shows proposed line routes, a preferred route and alternatives. It also shows the location where the Nebraska and Kansas lines will meet.
This transmission project is needed to ease congestion that, at times, hampers the flow of energy in the region and hinders NPPD’s efficient operation of its power plants. Also, the line will serve as an additional north/south path for energy thereby enhancing reliability of the regional transmission grid.
This third round of open houses will deal primarily with “LINE ROUTES.” Anyone residing in or owning property along the proposed routes is encouraged to bring the legal description of his or her property to an open house. In addition to receiving public comments, NPPD will provide information on the project.
In the event of bad weather, SNOW DATES are: Franklin - March 24, 2010, and Minden - March 25, 2010. Stay tuned to local TV and radio for any changes.
