Southern Seeking Applicants for 2010 Lineman Scholarship Program
If you know a recent high school graduate, or a student who will graduate from high school in 2010, now is the time to start thinking about Southern Power District’s Utility Line Scholarship Program. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is April 1, 2010. Applications are available on Southern’s website at www.southernpd.com, at our main office in Grand Island, or at any of Southern’s Service Centers. Current high school students or recent graduates who reside in Adams, Franklin, Hall, Hamilton, Kearney, Merrick or Phelps Counties are eligible to apply.
The scholarship is valued at $1,000, and is awarded on an annual basis to an individual who plans to attend an accredited school to begin a two-year utility line program. Half of the scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient following the successful completion of the first year of the utility line study program, and the second half will be awarded following graduation. Applicants must also serve a 12-week summer internship with Southern in cooperation with the school attended.
Southern also invites high school students to “shadow” one of our linemen for a day to find out firsthand what this career entails.
For more information about this program please call Darrell Peters today at 308-384-2350 or 1-800-652-2013. You can also find a scholarship application online.
