Summer 2010: A Busy Time for Projects at SPD

Crews all across the District are working hard this summer to keep the ball rolling on a number of construction projects. Construction of new subtransmission lines is underway to help the District keep pace with growing demand for electricity.

Currently, work is taking place on a new 6-mile line near Giltner/Stockham , and a 2 1/2 mile line in the Kenesaw/Prosser region. Already this year a 6 mile subtransmission line has been constructed in western Hall County.

Once these projects are completed, additional work is slated to continue through the end of the year near Cairo, Macon, Shelton, Alda and Ayr. This is a large workload and the success of these projects looks promising with the hard work of our linemen, but is also affected by weather conditions and other demands throughout the year for our workforce. Next month we’ll take a look at how these projects are coming along and highlight some of the work being done by our employees.
